Degree course advising in the departments
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Degree course advising includes the subject-specific introduction to your particular degree course when you start your studies, together with the provision of detailed information on how the degree course is structured and on the course and exam requirements for the specific course. Each of the departments has a university instructor who has been nominated as the representative for degree course advising.
You can find the addresses and office hours of the degree course advisors on your degree course page under 'Contact the department'. You can also ask if there are additional advising offers in your department; in some cases other staff members provide these services.
Tutorials
................................................................................................................................................................................................
At HAW Hamburg, several hundred students support their fellow students as tutors during the initial phase of studies – for example, during the orientation units for first-semester students. They teach them techniques for carrying out independent academic work, guide them in academic discussions, and support them in preparing for and doing follow-up work for lectures. The tutorials take place in small study groups.
Other tutors support the university's teaching and research through academic tasks. For example, they provide technical or administrative assistance to laboratory or library operations, or they gather and document resarch findings. Tutor positions are advertised within the faculties and departments. The tutors are given an employment contract at HAW Hamburg and receive an hourly wage that is paid out monthly.

Studying successfully also means being well-informed. You can find everything you need to know about doing research in the six HAW Hamburg libraries on their homepage.
