Visiting students, auditing students and guest auditors
In addition to those people enrolled as students at HAW Hamburg, other individuals can also attend courses:
- Visiting students are students from other universities who complete part of their studies at HAW Hamburg as part of a cooperation agreement between the two universities.
- Auditing students are students from other universities who take individual courses at HAW Hamburg and can also complete exams in theses courses.
- Guest auditors are people who are not completing a course of study at a university. They can attend individual courses but cannot complete the exams.
Visiting students
................................................................................................................................................................................................
If you are a student at another university which has signed a cooperation agreement with HAW Hamburg regarding student exchanges or joint degree courses, you can apply to be enrolled as a visiting student. You should be in at least the third semester of your studies.
As a visiting student you are entitled to complete the course work and exams. It is only possible to complete graduation exams if this has been formally agreed between your university and HAW Hamburg. Your visiting studies should be completed after two semesters. In exceptional cases they may take up to four semesters.
You are required to pay the semester contribution (without the administrative fee) during your time as a visiting student.
Students at German universities: Please send a mail to studierendensekretariat (at) haw-hamburg (dot) de indicating which university you are currently studying at and the subject area you would like to study as a visiting student.
Students from universities outside Germany: Please contact the HAW Hamburg International Office.
Auditing students
................................................................................................................................................................................................
If you are studying at another university, you can be admitted to individual courses as an auditing student for one semester. You are entitled to complete the coursework and exams in the individual courses you are admitted to. However, you are not permitted to complete interim or graduation exams pertaining to the degree course as a whole.
HAW Hamburg students are permitted to attend individual courses from other degree courses and complete up to four examinations or coursework items, as long as there is enough capacity and the Dean's Office of the faculty offering the course agrees. This does not entitle students to switch degree courses or enrol in the degree course in question.
