Student chip card - Update (20 March 2024)
From April 1, 2024, chip cards will no longer be issued to new students. Further information about Student ID card /chip card
The existing chip cards remain valid and should continue to be used as library cards. This applies both to the chip cards that have already been activated as library cards and to those that you will activate for library use.
HAW Hamburg members without a chip card who would like to use the HAW libraries will receive a HIBS library card from us. Prior to this, a one-time initial registration is required for library use.
Overview of services currently available:
E-media resources available through the HAW libraries
................................................................................................................................................................................................
HAW Hamburg members – employees, students and instructors – can access numerous online resources from the HAW network. This access is available at the university via WLAN or when you are not physically at the university from outside via VPN or Shibboleth.
1. VPN connection
Almost all of the e-media licensed for use at HAW Hamburg can also be accessed remotely using the VPN connection.
You can find more information about using the VPN connection here. Once you have connected to the HAW network using the VPN connection, you can search the HAW catalogue as you normally would and read full-text versions of online resources.
For questions related to our e-media resources, please contact your library using this form.
2. Shibboleth access
Shibboleth provides another way of accessing electronic resources. You can use your HAW account to log in, either via the Shibboleth portal at https://login.haw-hamburg.de or directly from your search in the HAW catalogue. A VPN connection is not necessary.
