Business Information Systems
This interdisciplinary degree course in Business Information Systems combines the study of computer science with a grounding in business administration. The spread of digitalisation is reaching more and more areas of today’s businesses, pushing demand for qualified experts in business information systems with the skills to develop bespoke software for organisations and systems for company applications.
The course employs a mix of theoretical classes and practical projects.

Experts in business information systems work at the interface between IT and business, which gives them excellent career prospects. They tackle complex challenges in-house and in consultancy, planning, implementing and managing business systems such as SAP, developing e-business strategies or designing data warehouses which provide management with the information it needs.
Course content and structure

The degree course links up computer science with business knowledge and skills, interspersing theoretical content with real-world project work. Modules taught include business administration, software development, business systems, databases, maths and computer networks.
The fifth and sixth semesters of the course provide opportunities to specialise via projects, required elecive modules and the Bachelor thesis.

This interdisciplinary degree course is right for you if you’re interested in both business or economics and IT issues. You’ll need to be good at maths. You don’t have to have any prior knowledge or experience of programming; we’ll teach you all you need to know during the course.
You’ll be a success on your course and in your professional life if you’re good with language, enjoy interacting with people, and are happy to work in small teams.

Higher education entrance qualification
You can apply directly for this course if you hold one of the following qualifications:
- Fachhochschulreife
- Allgemeine Hochschulreife
- Fachgebundene Hochschulreife (subject-specific HE entrance qualification)
- Meister*in (vocational qualification – master tradesperson)
- Fachwirt*in (certified specialist)
Applicants who do not hold a higher education entrance qualification but have completed vocational training (Berufsausbildung) and at least three years of subsequent work experience can apply under Section 38 of the Hamburg Higher Education Act, which sets out special provisions for these applicants (Besonderer Hochschulzugang für Berufstätige).

Pre-course experience
We do not require you to have completed pre-course experience for this course.
International applicants
If you completed your schooling outside Germany and want to study here for a Bachelor’s degree, you need to hold an academic school-leaving qualification which entitles you to admission to higher education; that is, it needs to be comparable to a German Abitur or Fachhochschulreife. The organisation uni assist will check your certificates from school and any degree-level studies to establish comparability. Please note that you are also required to have proof of German at level C1 – for example, in the form of a TestDaF certificate – in order to apply for all Bachelor's degree courses (except Information Engineering).

We only accept online applications. Before applying, applicants must register with www.hochschulstart.de.
