Study trips to Portugal

In 2016, a group of students from the International Business M.Sc. degree course flew to Porto for the first time to conduct research for a semester-long research project in the 'Multinational Enterprises and the Global Economy' course with Prof. Ribberink. The students were assigned the topic 'Backshoring of the Textile Industry to Portugal' and independently conducted expert interviews with representatives of Inditex and Citeve. The study trip not only produced excellent results but was also very popular with the students. Since then, it has taken place annually, except during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has included Lisbon as an additional destination.

New Erasmus and Carpe partners

Based on the success of the study trips and the related visits to local universities, new academic links were established. For the Business Department in particular, this meant the formation of a new Erasmus partnership with the Universidade Europeia in Lisbon. The private university with 2,600 students is a strong addition to the portfolio of partner universities with its excellent location and excellent range of courses.

Following the successful signing of the contract, Politécnico do Porto (P.PORTO) became a new associate partner in the CARPE association, a network of selected European universities for applied sciences which focus on applied research and vocational training, in June 2020. The university consists of eight so-called 'schools', which are distributed on three campuses across the city of Porto in the north of Portugal. Together the schools are home to approximately 18,500 students, who can obtain degrees in 56 Bachelor's and 62 Master's courses. They are also home to 24 research centres that conduct applied research on a variety of topics. Together with P.PORTO, a special interest group on entrepreneurship and business was founded, in which Prof. Natalia Ribberink represents HAW Hamburg.
