International health professionals
HAW Hamburg views internationalism as a key professional characteristic. This is why it maintains and promotes relationships with diverse international partners.
In the Department of Nursing and Management, stays abroad – whether for study, internships, or teaching or professional development stays – provide the opportunity to acquire key skills and further professionalise as a discipline, particularly in this age of globalisation and increasing migration. The development of social and cultural skills through exposure to difference and through experience with diverse life concepts and identities increases individuals' professional skills and personal horizons and can thus be considered an important career resource. Additionally, the way in which social challenges related to healthcare are addressed in other countries can provide valuable ideas for developing solutions in one's own country.

GO OUT!
... is the recommendation made by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
There are numerous ways to take part in an international exchange: at a partner university as part of the EU cooperation agreements (Erasmus), as part of the bilateral agreements with other universities outside the EU, through instructors' individual contacts, and – last but not least – through your own initiative.
Study semesters and internships abroad
................................................................................................................................................................................................
The Department of Nursing and Management currently has cooperation agreements in place with various universities – for example, in Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland, Brazil and South Korea. At some of them, organising an exchange is very easy because credit points are recognised and no student fees are charged; at others, organising an exchange will require individual advising. As so-called 'free-movers', students can select a university abroad on their own and apply for a scholarship – for example, from DAAD.
Short stays abroad
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Each year, the Department of Nursing and Management offers numerous opportunities to go abroad for a short period of time – for example, international weeks, various summer schools and field trips.
International week
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Each winter semester (November), international students have the opportunity to take part in a short English-language programme in the form of an 'international week' in the Department of Nursing and Management.
Our students can also take part in the short-term programmes offered by our cooperation partners. For example, an exchange takes place regularly with the Hogeschool in Utrecht, which offers an international week each summer semester (April/May). You can get more information from the International Office.
International teaching and professional development
................................................................................................................................................................................................
Because international relations thrive on individuals' mobility and engagement, the Erasmus programme and DAAD also support exchanges for teaching and continuing education for staff members.
