Social Work – International
The Department of Social Work's international relationships are embedded in HAW Hamburg's concept, which views an international orientation as a key attribute and aims to contribute to Hamburg's cosmopolitan character.
In the field of social work, a stay abroad – either for study or an internship – is an important foundation for your career given the increasingly global nature of the labour market and increasing immigration.
The development of social and cultural skills through exposure to difference and through experience with diverse life concepts and identities increases individuals' professional skills and personal horizons.
International teaching
Because international relations thrive on individuals' mobility and engagement, the Erasmus programme and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) also support exchanges for teaching and continuing education for staff members.
The HAW Hamburg International Office supports students in organising study stays and internships abroad and welcomes visiting professors and instructors in Hamburg. It provides information about partner universities and scholarships and offers a range of other services.
International semester
Each summer semester (March–July), international and German students have the opportunity to attend English-language seminars as part of the international semester offered in the Social Work and Education and Learning in Childhood degree courses.
Visiting students are of course also welcome in all German-language seminars.
The Department of Social Work's English-language offers are supplemented via a partnership with the international semester in the Nutrition and Home Economics department and the Health Sciences department in the Faculty of Life Sciences. This partnership provides students in both programmes with a diverse selection of courses that allow them to expand their knowledge of related disciplines.
