Our department
Mobility is our passion
Whether on the street, the rails or in the air, at the Department of Automotive and Aeronautical Engineering we are fascinated by vehicles and aircraft, as well as the mechatronics systems they integrate. We aim to enable students to independently apply academic and practical methods for the development and design of motor vehicles, trains and aircraft of all kinds, as well as methods from the field of mechatronics.
Together with our students, we are nevertheless addressing ethical and ecological questions in order to make the transportation of tomorrow more efficient, reliable and environmentally sound – especially in metropolitan regions. The development of an awareness of each individual's contribution to emissions is an essential requirement for developing technological innovations with a view to the overall ecological footprint.
The department is home to laboratories for aerodynamics, acoustics, CAD and lightweight construction, together with the automotive laboratory, the aeronautical laboratory, the aircraft systems laboratory, and the cabins and cabin systems laboratory. These labs are where – in addition to activities to supplement the department's teaching – practical research and development are conducted.
More than 100 professors, instructors, academic staff, and other employees carry out the department's teaching, research and administrative work. The department is located at the Berliner Tor Campus.
