HAW Hamburg Foundation
About the foundation
................................................................................................................................................................................................
The HAW Hamburg Foundation was founded in 1990 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the former Fachhochschule Hamburg (Hamburg Technical College) with the backing of companies, organisations and individuals.
It is a legal foundation under civil law and supports HAW Hamburg in all of its activities as a university of applied sciences – from the funding of individual projects to the provision of financial support for students and the organisation of university events. Since it was established, the HAW Hamburg Foundation has supported and funded numerous measures and projects at the university, including those in areas where the university's budget was not sufficient.
The chairperson of the foundation's board is the serving president of HAW Hamburg. Since 1 May 2023, Prof. Dr. Ute Lohrentz has held this function. The other members of the board are currently Prof. Dr. Michael Jeske and Axel Dreckschmidt (TÜV Nord).
Endowments and donations
................................................................................................................................................................................................
The foundation can be supported with donations or endowments.
In the case of a donation, a sum of money that can be used immediately for the foundation's work is given to the foundation.
An endowment is a contribution to the foundation's endowment fund. The fund's principal must be preserved, and only the income earned from it can be used to support the foundation's activities. This serves to strengthen the foundation over the long term.
Dedicated donations
It is possible to make general donations or donations for a specific purpose.
Funds from general donations are used to promote interdisciplinary studies or research projects implemented jointly by students, instructors and researchers. Donations can also be dedicated to a specific area or purpose. For example, a donor can support a particular faculty or a degree course.

Deutschlandstipendium (Germany Scholarship)
................................................................................................................................................................................................
The Deutschlandstipendium (Germany Scholarship) is a way of supporting young talent that is equally simple and unusual. Together with private sponsors, the federal government supports gifted students in order to provide them with optimal conditions for their studies and thus their careers.
HAW Hamburg acts as an intermediary between sponsors and scholarship recipients and organises the scholarship programme for the university – from the selection process to sponsor relations and the accompanying events programme. The university also determines the criteria for the selection of students.
Each scholarship is awarded for one year and amounts to €300 per month. As a sponsor, your total donation of €1,800 gives a student the opportunity to focus more strongly on their studies for one year.
Through your financial and non-financial support you can also accompany students on their study path and get to know them personally. This can form the basis for other networking opportunities such as trainee programmes, practicum placements or final projects. There are various possibilities.
