After completing her first Master’s degree in Public Health in Bangladesh, Sita Aryal decided to continue her education in the health research sector. She now realises that choosing the course framework of the Health Sciences degree course at HAW Hamburg, which offers a balance between practical and theoretical knowledge, was one of the best decisions she has made. During her third semester she completed an internship in the cancer epidemiology department at University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf. While there she was mainly involved in the MARIE study, an epidemiological study on breast cancer in Germany. The experiences she had during that period introduced her to the world of cancer epidemiology research.
To finance her studies and living expenses, Sita continued to work as a student assistant in the HAW Hamburg Department of Health Sciences, even alongside her compulsory internship. However, the Deutschland scholarship has made it possible for her to reduce her working hours, especially during long lecture phases and exam periods. This has been a great help to her, not only financially but also mentally, so that she can achieve her goals. She has also been working on a project at the University of Hamburg related to tobacco smoke.
